Missoula Menorah: A Light in Every Window

Missoula Menorah: A Light in Every Window

From EmpowerMT’s Friend Laurie Franklin of Har Shalom

Missoula Friends and Activists!

This is a call for solidarity. You are invited to attend the Mayor’s press conference at Har Shalom on Tuesday 12/20 at 11:30 am. The purpose is to launch a public campaign, Missoula Menorah: A Light in Every Window. It is a response to the hate literature being distributed around Missoula by the American Nazi Party, and its message is that Missoula does not welcome hate activities of any kind against any group of people. We’re asking people to show support by displaying menorahs in their windows. As a public service, the Missoulian will publish a menorah image for people to clip and display.

Mayor Engen will speak, as will Marilyn Marler, City Council President, and Sheriff McDermott. Police Chief Brady will also be on hand. The Missoula Ministerial Association and Missoula Interfaith Collaborative will be on hand to present the Missoula Menorah campaign, as well as a diverse group of Missoula-area clergy and community leaders (already notified!)

After the press conference, there will be food (soups, bagels, more).

Thanks to all for your deeply valuable support. If you know someone who is not on this distribution list who might have a special need to know, please forward. Also, feel free to share with your contact lists. In this time of transition and challenge, we need to support each other in the work of peace-making, reconciliation and justice.  I am deliberately showing all addressees, so you know who is included, so far. Please put me on your email lists if I am not already there!

Last, I apologize in advance for a blanket invitation. With this short notice, I’m not able to speak with each of you individually. Please know that you are appreciated and valued. And do let me know if you have questions or suggestions.

L’shalom (in peace),
